Many people have asked what the Anx in Anx labs is, and how it is pronounced. The name Anx is actually an abbreviation for “Annex” and is pronounced the same way. We believe that a name should tell a story, and that’s exactly why we choose Anx Labs as our name. Our story starts at Iowa State University where Josh Brown and some of his graduate school colleagues made a video game. While working on the game, they needed a place to work and found space in a very small, very old house behind Triangle Fraternity which they called “The Annex.” The group Josh was working with decided to call themselves Annex Labs. Meanwhile in North Carolina, David Sassen was working on his masters at the University of North Carolina, and spending most of his days working on half life mods and other on-the-side game development projects, wishing he could find a group of developers to help him start his own game and project. Both David and Josh's start-up game development aspirations fell short, but both found jobs in the game development industry in Orlando where they met and discovered their shared interest in starting a company of their own. After three years in the game development industry the glitz and glamour of commercial game development started to wear off. More importantly the enormous need for development tools tailored for game developers became apparent to both David and Josh. They decided the time was right to start their own company and Anx Labs Inc. was born. Anx Labs' mission today is to create quality software development tools for software and game developers that require tools for rapid iteration and short development cycles. |
